Vacation recap
My little trip to the West Coast was wonderful. I was able to relax and actually felt refreshed Monday morning at work. As stressful work has been the past year with the economy it was a good sign I was feeling refreshed. I think a week away was just what the doctor ordered. I spent Thursday – Tuesday in Vegas. The weather was very warm so I was not able to do as much running as I liked, but I did do A LOT of cross training – Walking. I am not much of a gambler so the majority of the time I walked around the strip looking at all the different places and of course did some shopping. I was also able to spend some time with my cousin, Lukas. I have not seen him in about 4 years so it was nice to catch up. He moved to Vegas about 5 years ago and I can definitely see why he enjoys it there so much.
My favorite part was not the casinos or the food… and believe it or not it wasn’t the shopping either. My favorite part was off the strip at Red Rock Park. I went with my cousin he had some friends that were rock climbing so we went and watched. It was just amazing. Standing in the middle of the desert was not what I expected it to be. There were no tumbleweeds rolling around it was just miles of beautiful rocks. I just loved it.

Tuesday morning I flew to Reno. Apparently Reno decided to have a weather phenomenon the day I arrived. My plane landed in 70 mph winds. I am not going to lie, barf bags were used and thank god I was not one of them. I had a few hours to kill before checking into the hotel so I had planned to drive to Lake Tahoe. Well silly me coming from Vegas and 80 degree weather I was wearing shorts and a t-shirt when I arrived in Reno. No wonder people were looking at me like I had 5 heads. It was much colder in Reno. At times it was snowing. So after I picked up my rental and drove to Tahoe my first pull over spot I climbed over the seats and grabbed some jeans out of my suitcase. Much better. I continued to drive around Tahoe and take some pictures until I started to see salt trucks and snow plows driving up the mountain. I thought to myself I better get my rental dodge caliber down the mountain before I get stuck up here.

Since Reno had up to 100mph winds early in the morning the Casino I stayed at had lost power. Of course the generator was running the money maker the Casino. Unfortunately, the electronic room keys were NOT working. They had to send a bell boy up to your room to let you in. So sitting in my room with no room key I decided to do room service and just make it easy. I felt like a queen they brought in my room service set it up on the bed unfolded my napkin and so on. I had to eventually make my way down to the lobby to get a key so I decided to play some slots!!!
Wednesday I spent half the day at our shipping warehouse and they showed me this sporting good store I had to stop at …. It was amazing. I think I spent over an hour just looking around. It put Dick’s Sporting Goods to shame.

I returned home to Ohio really late on Thursday. I had the day off on Friday and it probably took me all weekend to readjust with the time change, and the weather. There is so much pollen in the air when I left for lunch yesterday my car had that yellowish green powder coating on it. No wonder I feel like I have a cold I can’t completely kick.
The one bad thing about my return is I have had a slightly scratchy throat since returning. I don’t know if it was the weather differences or the elevation or just returning to a pollen bubble, but I have this dry cough that just drives me nuts.
I have 9 days to kick this slight cold and get ready and focused. I am starting to get that nervous excitement feeling. I am most worried about consuming the right foods the week before the race. The beginning of the week we are to build up on low calorie, high carb foods. Starting Wednesday we start cutting back the protein and increasing the carbs just a little. Also we need to add in sport drinks along with water throughout the day. By Friday, it will be fluid loading time and drinking water constantly. The day before the race we need to focus on high carb, low fat, low protein foods. The race day… Wow here already!!
Our group run this weekend is in downtown Cleveland on parts of the course. I am just sooo flipping excited!!!
