All good things

Sunday morning Amanda and I met in Kent for an eight mile run. Like normal I checked the weather and then my trusty runner’s world website to see the suggested attire. Things looked good. I had a new blue Nike dry fit shirt for the run and new gels to try then I was out the door.

Driving north to Kent the skies looked pretty dark. I started to think to myself, “Wait, wait, wait… I didn’t see rain in the weather when I checked this morning.” Then it hit me like a ton of bricks with much laughter. I checked the weather for Canton not Kent. Good thing I grabbed my rain jacket for then run.

There was a slight drizzle for the majority of the run. I threw on my runner’s jacket which ended up being too many layers. I ended up ditching it at the first water stop in Amanda’s husband’s car. Along with the jacket I also ditched one of my water bottles from my fuel belt. For some reason the back right one kept popping out of the belt when I ran. I don’t get what the problem was, but once I got rid of it all was good.

The first four miles I was able to stay with Amanda but the second half I had to tell her to go ahead. I needed to slow down and work on my breathing. For some reason my breathing was out of control. Blame it on the heavy pollen in the air, the faster then normal pace, or just the runner operating the respiratory system. Once I slowed down and worked on my breathing and form things seemed to be better.

I joked around after the second water stop that since my gel had extra caffeine in no time, although Amanda was ahead of me, I may pass her when the caffeine sets in. Well at one point in the run I was still behind Amanda and there was no super human strength from my double shot of caffeine, but I heard foot steps approaching from behind. Honestly, the foot steps were of a perfect runner’s pace much faster then what I was running. It was a young guy, with long legs of course, just running along like it was the easiest run of his life.

I had to chuckle to myself as he approached Amanda. For one second she may hear the perfect patter of his foot steps and think my caffeine kicked in!!! HAHAHAHAH

The last half mile of the run I felt my self pick up. It didn’t technically feel like my legs were moving faster, but I think they were. I finished eight miles in 1:28 not too shabby for a slow and steady runner like myself.

Of course after the run we went to the bakery. I had delicious Apple Cinnamon pancakes. For some odd reason I crave pancakes after a long run. I was never a pancake person until recently. Now I just LOVE them!!!
