This week is the week I plan on purchasing the perfect running shoes. The running shoes that will carry me the 26,200 steps to the finish line in May.
Anyone that knows me …knows I love to shop. And if you know me real good you know I LOVE SHOES. I started researching some running shoes and found myself completely overwhelmed. When it comes to shoes …. That has NEVER happened before.
First, all the different brands can be intimidating Adidas, Mizuno, Asics, Avia, Fila, New Balance, Saucony, Brooks, Nike, Reebok, Spira, Ryka, and more. How do you even narrow that down I guess you go with what you know works, and since I have never heard of Ryka running shoes I will automatically pass on those. Spira shoes are the new big thing apparently, although banned from certain marathons I believe Boston and maybe New York, because they have springs in the soles. So now that I have crossed two brands off my list only a million more to go!!!
The second step in finding the perfect running shoes is what are you looking for… motion control, stability, cushioned, or performance training.
Apparently it is very crucial to determine what personal pronation type you have when finding the proper running shoe. Do you have normal pronation, overpronation, or underpronation? Me... I have NO clue. If you have a normal arch, you're likely a normal pronator, meaning you'll do best in a stability shoe that offers moderate pronation control. Runners with flat feet normally overpronate, so they do well in a motion-control shoe that controls pronation. High-arched runners typically underpronate, so they do best in a neutral-cushioned shoe that encourages a more natural foot motion.
Are you confused yet because I know I am and I haven’t even tried on a shoe yet?!?!?!!?
To make matters worse once you get the shoes apparently there is a certain way you should lace and tie them. I don’t think my bunny ear shoe tying style is what they mean!! And you should never buy shoes in the morning. Your feet start swelling in the morning and they don't stop until about 4 p.m. That's as big as they're going to get, so always buy your shoes in the evening. (duly noted)
After days of researching running shoes I still have no idea what I want. I am going to leave that decision up to the trusty sales people at Second Sole or Fleet Feet. I will definitely take their word on what is the best for my running style, and hope they don’t cost an arm and a leg in the process.
Now on the other hand regarding shoe shopping if you ask me questions like….. peep toe vs sling back….. stiletto vs kitten heel…. Pumps vs. platform…. Mid Calf boots vs. over the knee boots….. I would never even hesitate on an answer!!!!!

I am running in Asics GT-2150s right now and I love them. I had Mizuno Wave Inspire 6s before this and loved them too. But by all means, let the nice folks at Second Sole or Fleet Feet help you out! Take a picture and let us know what you got!
